How Growth Factors Unlocked Portfolio Visibility Across  Bregal Sagemount with Maestro and iLEVEL

12/09/2025

Bregal Investments is a global private equity platform with over €40B in AUM and 90+ portfolio companies, including two top-decile growth funds. Growth Factors is the value-creation arm of Bregal, with a global team of 40+ generalists and specialists.

In 2023, Growth Factors sought a centralized digital solution that could bring structure and standardization to value creation planning, execution, performance tracking and reporting across the growing portfolio.

They conducted a thorough evaluation of the market for a purpose-built value creation platform for private equity – one that could tightly integrate operational planning and execution metrics with financial performance data. They chose Maestro.

Boosting Visibility into Asset-Level Performance

Maestro unlocked a major opportunity: consistent, comparable visibility into performance across companies. Key to this initiative, and the focus of this blog, Bregal wanted to preserve S&P Global’s iLEVEL portfolio monitoring solution as its system of record for financial data, while extending visibility into operational progress and execution.

In late 2024, Growth Factors launched a portfolio-wide initiative to standardize over 90 financial and operational KPIs. The initiative created consistency in both the metrics being tracked and the methodology behind them – enabling true cross-portfolio visibility while still accommodating company-specific KPIs.

The ability for clients to pick and choose which data points exactly they want to be synced from iLEVEL to Maestro ensures a balance of structure and flexibility. Bregal’s KPIs were built into tracking workflows and strategy-tagged reporting.

“Having one source of truth for KPIs, updated in real time, has changed the way we operate. For the first time, we can compare performance on a like-for-like basis, while still respecting company-level
nuances.”

Ben Willis, Operating Partner, Bregal.

Most recently, Bregal implemented the native integration between iLEVEL and Maestro creating a single, real-time view that blends quantitative metrics (iLEVEL) with qualitative updates (Maestro).

Having previously ingested data from iLEVEL to Maestro on a monthly basis, the new API-driven integration syncs automatically from iLEVEL to Maestro daily, boosting visibility into asset-level performance and greatly streamlining value creation monitoring and reporting needs.

“The native integration between iLEVEL and Maestro has greatly improved visibility into operational performance across the portfolio. Manual processes have been removed, and it has enabled us to work smarter and faster with less time spent on data manipulation and
more on driving business growth.”

Ben Willis, Operating Partner, Bregal.

Instead of waiting on lagging indicators and manual reporting cycles, Bregal now tracks progress and metrics in real time at both the company and fund level.

Today, the Growth Factors team can drill down into source-level contributors, compare strategy-specific benchmarks, and proactively manage outcomes with confidence.

With a fully integrated tech stack and repeatable framework in place, the firm is setting a new bar for what digital value creation can look like in private equity and is now well-positioned to scale the impact of its Growth Factors team even further.
